With the popularity of streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, the industry is turning to an increasingly popular and cheaper alternative: the podcast.
The format has been gaining traction across the digital landscape, with podcasts reaching the millions of people who listen to them daily.
But what does it mean for an audio and video production studio?

There are more than 2,000 podcasts available, with many being released each year.
They range from casual to serious discussions with the aim of helping listeners understand the audio and visuals of their favourite TV shows and movies.
The format was introduced to Australia by the ABC, with its flagship news and current affairs program NewsRadioNow.
But in 2017, with the introduction of the ABC’s new digital platforms and the introduction and availability of more podcasts, the format is becoming more widely embraced by producers, who are now finding new ways to make their material accessible to listeners.
Podcasts, by their nature, are short, but they are a medium for discussing content.
You can get into a conversation about anything, from a movie review to a TV series, with your audience.
There are no rules in the podcast world.
You are free to talk about any subject that interests you, without worrying about copyright laws.
While some podcast listeners might be intimidated by this, the fact that you can make a podcast without worrying whether the content you are discussing is protected or not makes it easy to listen.
AAP Video producer Ryan McNeill says podcasting has evolved into a ‘new way to communicate’AAP Image This can make podcasts a good option for people with limited access to a digital device.
Many podcasts can be accessed on the go and with just a few taps.
In some cases, you can even stream a podcast to your iPad or iPhone and make a copy, with an app such as iZotope’s AudioCopy.
For some, it’s more convenient than buying a new audio source.
A good example is a podcast called The Voice.
It’s a podcast that is hosted by the British actress and actress-turned-comedian Roseanne Barr.
This podcast is hosted on a website called VoiceBrite.
You sign in using your phone number, username and email address, and you can then listen to the episodes of The Voice on the platform.
Many podcasts are also available on Google Play, Apple’s iTunes and Amazon’s podcast app.
“There is no reason why people can’t make a few dollars per episode by making a podcast,” McNeill said.
“We have to be careful not to create a podcast culture where it becomes like Netflix, where you’re only allowed to download one episode and you’re limited to a handful of episodes.”
I think that’s going to have a negative impact on the podcast industry in the short-term.
“But for the medium to truly evolve, we have to ensure that we create a space where people are willing to invest time and money in producing content, which is the only way we’re going to see podcasting succeed in the long-term.”
