A lot of the Freebsd team’s projects are on hold right now.
It’s unclear what’s going to happen to them or when they’ll be released.
But the team is still working on a new version of the kernel.
There’s also a new FreeBSD-based server for ARM, FreeBSD’s x86 microarchitecture.
And in May, the Freebbsd project announced the creation of the FreeBSD OpenSSL Project, which will support OpenSSL since the software is the de facto standard in SSL.
FreeBSD 5.6 is expected to be released in 2019, and the OpenSSL team has been hard at work on the next version.
